Gallery Wall
Local Artists
Shadow and Shear isn’t just a salon, it’s a space for creative people to show up as they are. Our gallery wall features rotating work from local artists, with a focus on keeping things inclusive and accessible for folks who don’t always get the spotlight.
We keep our commission low so artists can actually benefit from sharing their work. For us, it’s about giving space, not taking it. If you're here, take a minute to look around. Every piece has a story worth noticing.

Apeksha Darbari

15 years in the tech industry and a recent neurodivergence diagnosis later, Apeksha is making radical changes in her life and work through creating art. Currently focused on abstract and fluid art, she also dabbles in poetry and plays the piano. Her art practice is a commitment of unwavering support for her inner child and forging her way back to her. To that end, she will pursue whichever art form calls out to her with a relentless allegiance to her humanity, her art, and her magic. My life is to honour my nature, To relish the fruit from my tree, For that's all I have to offer, To always be more of me.
Isabel Klapwyk
Isabel Klapwyk is a jack of many trades, one of which includes the fairly unique medium of Artist Conk Mushrooms and a whole lot of confidence. Being immersed in the chaotic world of film and performance in their day to day, they find a quiet focus in the contrast and simplicity of this peculiar medium.
Collection name: Painting With Shadows
Nature is the most powerful tool to remind us of where we have come from and where we are in the present moment. I incorporate elements of nature as an essential part of my creative process, which involves connecting with the nature of the place I am in as an interdisciplinary visual artist and herbalist.
I hold a bachelor's degree in visual arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and have spent my career weaving community engagement, eco-arts, and traditional fine arts together within the work I do in social services and as a practicing artist. I work across many mediums, and invite you to visit my website to learn more about my work at www.kaitlynbeugh.com
The artwork featured at Shadow and Sheer are called Wave Imprints. They are made in collaboration with the ocean- I take charcoal found at the beach, turn it into ink, add a splash of the ink to paper on the foreshore and let a wave dance across it. This creates a one-of-a-kind image of the nuanced movements the wave has, capturing a moment in time.
Sarah Chapelas

Sarah is an emerging, primarily self-taught, multidisciplinary artist, born, raised, and currently residing on the unceded traditional lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Her creative explorations include collage, painting, mixed media, drawing, embroidery, and, most recently, ceramics.
Sarah draws inspiration from a diverse range of sources. Found objects add unique textures and stories to her work. Music influences the mood and rhythm of the pieces. The charm of interior design and the beauty of architecture shape a sense of space and form. History provides endless themes, while antiques and vintage items add a nostalgic touch. Ephemera captures everyday moments that she weaves into her art. Nature grounds her work and continuously inspires her. Her childhood love of I-Spy books is reflected in her collage work, inviting viewers to engage deeply and discover the many layered intricacies throughout each piece. A playful and sometimes dark sense of humor is woven into her work, offering contrast and balance to its deeper themes.
