Gallery Wall
Local Artists
Shadow and Shear isn’t just a salon, it’s a space for creative people to show up as they are. Our gallery wall features rotating work from local artists, with a focus on keeping things inclusive and accessible for folks who don’t always get the spotlight.
We keep our commission low so artists can actually benefit from sharing their work. For us, it’s about giving space, not taking it. If you're here, take a minute to look around. Every piece has a story worth noticing.

Claire (They/she) is an interdisciplinary artist currently residing in Vancouver. They fell in love with making art early in childhood, spending most days finger painting alongside their grandfather in Toronto. Claire eventually moved out East and completed her BFA at NSCAD University; where she dove into ceramics, textiles, printmaking, painting, silver casting and mixed media like never before. Being inspired by nature and animals, Claire decided it was important to explore the beauty of what both coasts have to offer, and moved to Vancouver in 2019. Claire now occasionally sells their artwork at local markets across the city under the name “the not so early bird”. When she is not making art, teaching art classes, or working at her day job in mental health- Claire enjoys tide-pool hopping alongside her partner and tiny dog (@ rat_mello)

Katie Blecker
Katie Blecker (she/her) is a queer disabled Vancouver-based artist working primarily in mixed-media sculpture and painting. Her work is inspired by the natural world and folklore, taking the shape of enchanting and peculiar creatures and forms, both familiar and seemingly from another time and place. Katie’s sculptures and process are a physical representation of living with a complex chronic illness called ME/CFS - they are built slowly and methodically over days, weeks, and months in her home-based studio when she has enough energy available. Follow Katie on instagram at @katiebleckerstudio and @katie.blecker. Visit her online shop at www.katieblecker.bigcartel.com
Madison Mackinnon
I am a skilled makeup effects technician for film and television with a passion for creating unique, handcrafted artwork that brings joy to others. My signature "eyeball flowers" are as distinctive as the individuals who display them in their homes. Each piece is meticulously sculpted, molded, and cast in durable plastic to ensure both longevity and safety. With every flower hand-painted and fabricated, no two pieces are ever identical. I offer a diverse range of decor, including plaques, shadowboxes, and books in various shapes and sizes, ensuring there is something to complement every aesthetic. I take immense pride in crafting eye-catching art that sparks curiosity and leaves a lasting impression. I sincerely hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them.
Zoe
"My name is Zoe (Foxytokes online) but my artist tag is Visible Confusion, which is usually also my facial expression. My art has always been inspired by Saturday morning cartoons and that feeling that anything is possible, using bright colours I like to put a little piece of myself onto every canvas. While I have no official education in the arts I have been pursuing the passion since I could hold a pencil. My works have been featured in Clinton, White Rock, and Abbotsford within Canada while I have two pieces in the US in Arizona and Ohio. You can find my print-on-demand art on TEEZR and Redbubble @VisibleConfusion
